Annual Meeting

Our evening began with an early 6:00 P.M. gallery browse of the art entries for the 2009 Purchase Art Award Contest.

 

  

President Mary Pohland welcomed the audience and gave a brief summary of this year's contributions to the library by the Friends.

    

She reported that the Friends purchased one computer,and book bags,financed the entertainment for the summer reading program, provided support for our web site and the Purchase Award Art Contest and brought authur, Terry Fisk to the annual meeting in October.

At 7:00 P.M. Terry Fisk, a paranormal investigator at Unexplained Research LLC and co-author of The Wisconsin Road Guide to Haunted Locations provided a power point presentation of the numerous, fascinating settings in Wisconsin with mysterious histories. Autographed copies of his book were available for purchase


The presentation ceremony for the Purchase Award Art Contest awarded prizes to:  
     1st Place - Kathy Lammert (Hubertus) for her acrylic, "Knowledge is the Window to the World"
 
           The picture was purchased for $300 and will be gifted to the library.
     2nd Place  - Frank Riemer (Germantown) for his photograph, "Bedtime Story"
     
     The award was $75.
    3rd Place - Mary Boettcher (Germantown) for her watercolor, "Golden Gate Park Waterlily"

he award was $50.

Honorable Mention Awards were presented to Polly Egan of Hubertus, Paul Fusek, D.L. Orth, and Otto Pena, all of Germantown. 

 

In 2009 thirty-two non-professional Washington County artists submitted one or two pieces of art.Fifty-seven pieces of art were judged by Sue Farmer-Tiefenthaler, art instructor and Professor Emertus for the UW-Madison.

The Friends would like to thank all participants for making the contest a great success and beautifying our library with their creations.

We are looking forward to planning the 2010 Contest and we will have registration forms available at all the Washington County libraries in the spring of 2010.  Participants must be older than 18, a resident of Washington County, and a non-professional artist.

Election

The Annual Meeting followed.  Elections were held for Vice President and Treasurer. Nominations were open to the floor.  Larry Shebesta was re-elected Vice President and Elizabeth Harebo was re-elected Treasurer.         

              

             Happy 40th Anniversary Friends of the library.    Refreshments were served throughout the evening.

2009 Annual Spring Book Sale

        

The 2009 used book sale was very successful in meeting our goal of raising $7300 to fund the 
children's summer reading program and purchase 6 computers for the library. A thank-you goes out to the many Germantown residents who donate books regularly for the sale. Many hours are spent by our members and faithful volunteers sorting, arranging and tending the book sale.  We thank all of you for its success.

          We are presently seeking books, videos, CDs ,and tape donations for our 2010 Spring Book Sale     
          to be held March 25th-28th, 2010.  
          Bring donations to the library.

Second Saturday of each month September - May  at 9 AM at the library.
