2011 Friends Purchase Award Art Contest


          The Friends hold an annual Purchase Award Art Contest for the purpose of encouraging and 
          spotlighting the fine arts in Germantown while acquiring an original piece of art created by a 
          Washington County non-professional artist.

This year 31 non-professional Washington County artist each submitted 1 or 2 pieces of art.  Fifty-four pieces of art were judged by Stephanie Copoulos-Selle, a professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha. Her work has be exhibited nationally including in the collections of Yale University and the School of the Chicago Art Institute. She works in three mediums: artist's books, prints and paintings.


Honorable Mention Awards were given to Polly Edgar, Tracy Heerhold, Everett Powell, Cassie Warlow, and Donald Whistler.


This year a the library patrons and all in attendance for the evening voted on a  "Peoples' Choice Award".  The result was a 3-way tie shared by Patricia Gergetz, Otto Pena, and Donald Whistler.

 

The Friends would like to thank all participants for making the contest a great success and beautifying our library with their creations.



 


                All of the 54 pieces of art were exhibited in the library for the month of October.



                  The following 2011 Purchase Award Art Contest prizes were awarded .

   

    Sandra Butz-Sieber  of Richfield received  

     1st  place  for her mixed-media painting,

 " Merritt the Muse".

     It was purchased for $300 and gifted to the

      library.

 


      


    Louise Joyner's watercolor, "Pears" received the
   second place award or $75. Louise is living in
    West Bend.

  

                    
Deborah Bentley's hand painted silk, "Ablaze"
received the third place award of $50.
Deborah resides in Germantown. 


      Registration forms for the 2012 Purchase Award Art Contest  will be available at all   

      Washington County libraries in April. Participants must be older than 18, residents of

      Washington County and non-professional artists. The registration deadline is in September.
